Increasing Transparency & Accountability

As a result of Commissioner Goslin’s legislation, the County Board has established a new committee  to oversee the activities of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management as well as the funding that is channeled through this department.  He will serve as Vice-Chair of the new Board Committee.

Commissioner Goslin is dedicated to increasing transparency and accountability at the county, and believes the creation of this committee is an important measure to prevent the sort of questionable spending decisions that have been heavily reported these past few months.

This proposal is just his latest effort to ensure that taxpayer money is used in an open and responsible manner.

Commissioner Goslin’s recent transparency efforts include proposals to :

  • Require that all lobbying contacts related to any item for consideration by the County Board appear with the item on the Board Agenda.
  • Institute an online bidding process for county contracts
  • Create an online monthly check register for both Cook County and the Forest Preserve District. (The Cook County monthly check register is now available on the county website)
