Through negotiations, the landowner has agreed to sell the subject property to the District for the sum of $700,000. The Purchase Price is based upon two appraisals obtained by the District and is subject to the District’s satisfactory completion of its due diligence.

On May 7, 2013, the Forest Preserve District Board granted permission to complete the purchase of the property upon satisfactory completion of all due diligence and negotiation by the District’s legal department. The Board previously authorized the District to create a forest preserve at the location of the property.

In the 2013 construction season, the Cook County Highway Department plans to allocate $35 million to improve nearly 49 lane miles of roadway in 19 municipalities. There are 21 county roadway projects scheduled for this construction season.

Major projects in or near the 14th District include:

Lake-Cook Road, from Pfingsten to Waukegan - The $8.5 million reconstruction project will widen the street from four to six lanes, install illuminated street name signs and build sidewalks to improve pedestrian access. Once the project is complete, the roadway’s increased capacity will alleviate traffic through the busy Waukegan intersection. More information on this project can be found on a dedicated website run by the Village of Deerfield at LakeCookRoad.com.

Schaumburg Road, from Barrington Road east to Roselle Road – The $3 million Roadway patching on 3.1 miles of Schaumburg Road will eventually supplement the Roselle Road/I-90 tollway interchange project, set to begin in 2014. The project will be jointly funded by the County and Toll Highway Authority.

Hintz Road, from Arlington Heights Road to Elmhurst Road in Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Prospect Heights – rehabilitation of existing pavement.

Commissioner Goslin’s amendment to reduce tax rates for Non-Retailer Vehicle Transfers was approved at the May 8th County Board Meeting. The amendment is an interim compromise reached by Commissioner Goslin and some of his colleagues with President Preckwinkle that reduces the tax rate on sales of vehicles 4 years and older.

The Non-Retailer Use Tax applies to person-to-person motor vehicle sales. Goslin has been opposed to this tax since its enactment and has been working to mitigate its impact on county residents.

The approved amendment more equitably distribute fees in relation to the purchase price of the vehicles. The largest change is the tax reduction on cars 9 years or older, from $175 to $90.

Commissioner Goslin voted against the Non-Retailer Use Tax when it was approved as part of the FY2012 Budget and is still in support of its repeal. In the meantime, the effective date of the new, reduced tax rates is August 1, 2013. The current and proposed tax rates can be seen below:
